Install, step by step.
From download to the first sound in about five minutes. Every plugin runs fully for 7 days, so you can install first and buy later.
Before you start
- macOS: macOS 11 Big Sur or later, Apple silicon and Intel. Formats: AU (Logic, GarageBand, also Ableton Live and FL Studio) and VST3 (Ableton Live, FL Studio, Cubase, Studio One, Reaper, Bitwig).
- Windows: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. Format: VST3.
- Pro Tools needs AAX, which is coming. Until then, Kelvinmoor plugins do not load in Pro Tools.
- Close your music software before installing, so it finds the new plugins when it starts.
macOS: run the installer
- Download the installer from the downloads page: one
.pkgfor all twenty plugins (Kelvinmoor-Complete-…-macOS.pkg) or one per plugin. - Double-click the
.pkgin your Downloads folder. If macOS says it can't verify the installer, see the next section. - Click Continue until Installation Type. Leave Audio Units and VST3 both on, unless your software uses only one of them.
- Click Install and type your Mac's password when macOS asks for it. That is the password you use to log in to your Mac, not a Kelvinmoor password.
- When it says The installation was successful, click Close. You can move the installer to the Trash.
Where the files go: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components for AU and /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3 for VST3. Every music app on the Mac looks in those two folders.
macOS: “can’t be verified”
While our installers are waiting for Apple's notarization, macOS may stop the installer with a message such as “Apple could not verify ‘Kelvinmoor-….pkg’ is free of malware”. The installer is safe; macOS shows this for any installer that has not been notarized yet. To open it:
- Click Done on the message (not Move to Trash).
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll down to Security.
- Next to “Kelvinmoor-….pkg was blocked to protect your Mac”, click Open Anyway, then enter your Mac's password.
- Click Open in the last prompt. The installer starts; continue from step 3 above.
On macOS 14 Sonoma and earlier there is a shorter way: Control-click (or right-click) the .pkg, choose Open, then Open again.
Only do this for installers you downloaded from kelvinmoor.com.
Windows: install the VST3
- Download the Windows installer from the downloads page and run it.
- If Windows shows Windows protected your PC, click More info, then Run anyway. It appears for new installers until Windows has seen them enough times.
- Accept the default folder,
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3. It is the standard VST3 folder, and every host scans it. - If you got a
.zipinstead of an installer: unzip it and copy eachKelvinmoor ….vst3folder intoC:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3(Windows asks for administrator permission).
Find the plugins in your DAW
After installing, open your music software. Most hosts find new plugins by themselves; if not, a rescan does it. Kelvinmoor plugins are listed under the manufacturer Kelvinmoor, with the name and its job, for example KO-2A Opto Comp or SOLSTICE Vocal.
Logic Pro (Mac)
- Open Logic. The first time, it checks the new Audio Units by itself; wait until it finishes.
- On a channel strip, click an empty Audio FX slot → Audio Units → Kelvinmoor.
- Not there? Logic Pro → Settings → Plug-in Manager, select Kelvinmoor on the left, then Reset & Rescan Selection.
Ableton Live (Mac and Windows)
- Open Settings (Preferences in older versions) → Plug-Ins.
- Turn on Use VST3 Plug-in System Folders, and on a Mac also Use Audio Units.
- Click Rescan. Hold Option (Mac) or Alt (Windows) while you click it for a full rescan.
- In the Browser, open Plug-Ins → Kelvinmoor and drag a plugin onto a track.
FL Studio (Mac and Windows)
- Open Options → Manage plugins.
- Check that the search paths include the VST3 folder (they do by default), then click Find more plugins.
- When the scan ends, click the star next to each Kelvinmoor plugin you want at hand. Starred plugins appear in the browser under Plugin database → Effects.
- In the Mixer, click an empty slot on an insert and pick the plugin.
Pro Tools
Pro Tools only loads AAX plugins. AAX versions are coming; we will announce them on the downloads page.
Other hosts
- GarageBand: AU, under Plug-ins → Audio Units → Kelvinmoor.
- Cubase / Nuendo: VST3 only. Studio → VST Plug-in Manager → rescan if needed.
- Studio One: Options (Settings on Mac) → Locations → VST Plug-ins → Reset Blocklist, then restart.
- Reaper: Options → Settings → Plug-ins → VST → Re-scan.
- Bitwig Studio: Settings → Locations: the system VST3 folder is scanned by default.
Activate your serial
Every plugin runs fully for 7 days without a serial. When you buy, you get one serial per plugin by email right after checkout (Complete comes with a single serial for all twenty).
- Find the purchase email and copy the serial for the plugin. Serials look like
KM01-7Q2D-K9FX-30MB: the first part is the plugin's code (KM01is KO-2A;KMALis Complete). - Open the plugin in your DAW and click TRIAL in its top bar. After the trial it says ACTIVATE. You can also open the settings menu → Activate license…
- Paste the serial into the field and click Activate. The plugin needs an internet connection for a few seconds.
- When it says Activated. Thank you!, you're done. Every copy of that plugin on this computer, in any project and any host, is now activated.
Each serial is active on 1 computer at a time. After activation the plugin works offline for up to 45 days between checks.
Move to a new computer
- On the old computer, open the plugin and click ACTIVATE in the top bar (or the settings menu → Activate license…).
- Click Deactivate this computer. The serial is free again.
- On the new computer, install the plugin and activate the same serial.
The old computer is gone, stolen or broken? Write to support@kelvinmoor.com from your order email and we free the serial for you.
Uninstall
- macOS: delete the plugin from
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Componentsand/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3. Deactivate it first if you want to use the serial on another computer. - Windows: delete its
.vst3folder fromC:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3.
